Smart City Network in Antwerpen

On the 5th September, LUMIGUIDE with other 17 companies in the region of The Netherlands and Flemish gave pitches to several municipalities in the topic of smart cities. The 4 minutes pitches focus on smart cities and data management. Eighteen companies were participating in the pitch carrousel at Antwerp that day. Most of the companies focuses on digital twins which is a virtual model of a process, product or service. The concept of digital twin already exists since 2002. However, it becomes more cost-effective since the development of Internet of Things (IoT). Digital twins are pairing the virtual and physical worlds, which allows the analysis of data, system monitoring and prevention before they occur by using simulation on future planning.

Excursion and Pitch Carrossel

The day itself is initiated by Future City, an organization that is bridging and creates an exchange of knowledge, thoughts and solution between tech-nerds and urban planning. The program of the day focused on bridging the relationship between municipalities and companies that are working in smart solutions from smart cities.

During the event, several municipalities such as Amersfoort, Apeldoorn, Hilversum, Krimpen a/d/ Ijssel, De Ronde Venen, Sittard-Gellen, Utrecht, and Zwolle are presented. Moreover, the Utrecht province, Zeeland province, and de Bilt also attended the end. The RIVM, Police together with Economic Board Utrecht and future city foundation were also part of the participant on the event.

Bicycle Detection System

In the rise on sustainable transportation, LUMIGUIDE uses NS train service to the event. In this event, LUMIGUIDE presented our smart parking solution for bicycle detection system. Our service is a little bit different than the other company that provides direct digital twin for the municipality.

We focused on the data generation for the digital twins. It is because our bicycle detection system data is created from the fluctuation in the number of bicycles parked in a particular parking facility. We then use the data to learn about travelling and the traffic trend of the resident in the city. The combination of our optical system with advance algorithm made us able to detect the number of bicycles available in a particular location and shows it to the city and cyclists in a digital display sign. Our optical system is the first in the world that is being used to detect bicycle parking location.

In this way, cities can route reduce the number of bicycle park illegally in the city and re-direct them to the nearby parking location with our Route Information System.

With our parking solution, we hope to help the city become smarter and more livable. In addition to that, we want to support the green mobility which allows pedestrian and cyclist to navigate comfortable in the city. Take a look at the implementation of the first in the world route information system that is being installed in the city of Utrecht.
